Friends Again?
Bertelsmann and EMI sort their differences out of court after EMI had brought a claim against the German company for copyright infringement. Why were they sued in the first place? Because Bertelsmann had invested millions into Napster in 2000 when it was allowing illegal file sharing. Bertelsmann has not admitted any liability but they are still facing legal action from certain music publishers who may not be as willing to make an out of court settlement.

Warnings from the Patent Office - watch out for rogue businesses offering to register names on their own 'official looking' registers. These businesses look for people who have recently applied to / registered with the Patent Office and then send out invoices similar to those of the PO offering further services for a fee. People be careful.
Dire Directive?
The Copyright Directive, set to facilitate and help the use of content online has come under criticism following a detailed review. One criticism is that the Directive has provided content owners with more control of their rights to the detriment of the end user. Is this really a bad thing? Content is king and the creators need protection more now then ever before.
