Slipped Discs
The loss of the discs containing the details of 25 million individuals will trigger new data protection laws. The HMRC errors concerning the lost discs shows the weak powers currently provided to the Information Commissioner who polices data protection. Other countries require businesses to disclose breaches of security to anyone affected. Not so in Blighty. However, Richard Thomas may have increased powers soon enough but don't be expecting him to be hiring offices in Guantanamo Bay.
R4 Nintendo Worries
The R4 Chip is available and set to ruin Nintendo's Christmas. The chip allows the user, once they have paid as little as _20 for it, the free downloading of games for the Nintendo DS. This could cost the games company millions of pounds in lost revenue. One imagines that it wont be long before Nintendo brings a claim for the enabling of the illegal downloading. Think Napster.

A new House of Lords ruling means that you can get refunds from your credit card provider for faulty goods that are bought abroad. This includes those dodgy items purchased online. You may find before too long the cost of online purchasing going up due to increases brought in by the credit card companies to compensate for your compensation.
